These are the days

Hello young ones,
The new year has trudged towards us with unwavering certainty. I saw him like a shadow, approaching us from the unclear place called the future. People have been saying quite a lot lately, "This year has gone by so fast," or "Time is  really flying now," in a sort of melancholy way. As if they are ruing the lack of ways to stop the clock of time.

Why though? We are living in the days. I don't care if you are eight or eighty, we are living in the days where God has stretched his hand into our lives. Where he has promised us a future and a hope.  We might as well jump for joy. We have the world, that is ours to fly on.  As Dr. Suess says, "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose."

Sometimes we will have those days. Not these ones. But the ones that leave you with taste of depression. That you will feel time has passed you by, when you wanted it to stop, or stopped, in a horrid moment, when you wished in would've flown past. Or when you are waiting, in that waiting place. Waiting for something, or nothing.

But then God will lift you out of it. He was always there but now your eyes are open. And you'll see the way. You'll follow with speed, and time will fly, but you'll be riding beside it.  You will see life passing and it will bring you joy instead of dread. Every step, every minute, you know, you are one step closer to Him. To our Father.

So, look to the next year with yearning, and eager eyes. Peer into the murky future and smile because you know. You know the end of the book. Many things will happen in the middle but the end is certain.  I know you have done it like I, read the end of a book before the middle, just to make sure it's good. That's life for us. We know the ending.

And it is the best ending.

Happy new year everyone.

"Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!"

Ya know, I never really thought about it like that - how when we say, "Time just flies, doesn't it?" it's usually in a melancholy way! You're perfectly right. We SHOULD jump for joy that we GET to live the days and that we GET to see "time fly!"

    This was utter beauty.
